Acoustic ceiling tiles were originally developed by interior designers who wanted to find a way to lower ceilings in a room while deadening the noise. With a acoustic ceiling tiles, a grid of metal strips is suspended from the room's actual original ceiling. Each of the sound-absorbing acoustic ceiling tiles is dropped into the sections created by the grid. The ceilings, in addition to deadening sound, can also hide unsightly fixtures, wires, and pipes that may be along the ceiling of older buildings and basements. The popularity of acoustic ceiling tiles reached its height in the '60's up through the early part of the 1980's. Since they originally contained asbestos, the ban on it greatly affected the production of acoustic ceiling tiles in 1978. Many people had to hire specialists to remove the asbestos acoustic ceiling tiles and replace them with alternate materials or restore rooms to their original bare ceilings.

This testing revealed that ordinary thermoplastic ceiling boxes that are reinforced in this manner are capable of sustaining loads that are factors above the requirements of NEC (314.27D & 422.18). These NEC building codes apply to the installation of ceiling fans and fan-rated ceiling boxes. Another added feature is that this product installs in only 2 minute's or less with common hand tools and allows the installation of a ceiling fan to be accomplished in less than an hour from start to finish. If the Westinghouse fans were to be used with this product it could be done in 17 minutes or less! The product can also be also used with metal boxes after 2 holes have been drilled in the ceiling box.

Finally, seriously consider a fan that can have its rotation reversed. The benefits include better cooling in the summer and better heating in the winter. Once you have made the necessary decisions with respect to the type of ceiling fan(s) you need, it's time to go shopping. There are a number of places that sell ceiling fans. First, there are brick and mortar stores that specialize in lighting. Many carry only one or two brands and this will limit your choices. In addition, lighting stores usually aren't large enough to have all the models displayed, which further limits your choices. Also, keep in mind that many lighting stores need to sell at or close to retail in order to pay for the overhead it takes to operate a store.

Even if you have a furnace or air conditioning units, you should still consider installing ceiling fans. Often, just turning on the ceiling fan will be enough to cool everyone down, saving you from turning on your air conditioning system. And in those really hot days you need to turn the AC on, the ceiling fans will help reach a comfortable environment around your house much faster. And the same thing applies to those cold winter days, when you have to have to heat your place.

These types of suspended ceilings can be made de-mountable for maintenance or non-accessible; if you opt for the de-mountable type then the ceiling planks are removed to allow you your easy access. Another suspended ceiling system is the bandraster system; these types of suspended ceilings are very flexible and can be made to match with any kind of building architecture. Once again these suspended ceilings can be made accessible or non accessible. These suspended ceiling are design with either concealed or exposed sections which link up to achieve lateral bracing, therefore these systems can be modified to fit any building.

There are even those suited for children rooms like the kid ceiling fan, with slower spinning speeds and flexible ceiling fan blades, and rugged enough to resist whatever your kids might throw at it. And then you have those with exotic blade shapes and patterns that turn your house into a relaxing and magical resting place, the perfect place for you return to after a stressful working day. Whatever your choice is, you'll definitely benefit with some ceiling fans hanging from your ceiling.

And everyone knows how much better it feels to have a breeze blowing over you on those hot summer days. Even though the air is at the exact same temperature as its surrounding environment, the air movement has a chill affect that helps lower the skin temperature. Think of it as traveling in your car on a hot summer day with the windows full open... doesn't it feel good? That's exactly the same thermodynamic principle that has been known for thousands of years - well before cars were invented.

What happens when air from the ceiling fans hits the ceiling in a room with a sloped ceiling? If the ceiling fan is centered in the room, it would be basically half way up the slope. So wouldn't all the air go directly up the slope from where the ceiling fan is mounted? What about the other half of the room? What happens when the room is large? Will the force, coming down the walls, still be enough to get this warm air to the floor, especially when the ceiling is two stories high? What happens when ceiling fans are in a room with a two story high ceiling, which is open to the second floor level of the home?
